Graduated in 1969 - The Life Honourary Chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, Hong Kong

1969年畢業 — 中華廠商會永遠榮譽會長

Ian Chan studied at St. Paul’s from 1960 to 1969, graduating in 1967. He worked as an oil refinement researcher for Brookhaven National Laboratory and Shell after attaining his doctorate. In 1985, Chan returned to Hong Kong to succeed his father’s businesses, Ping Shan and Sui Ping, which specialise in fodder (animal feed) manufacturing.

Not one to forget his roots, Chan has also been vice chairman of the Chinese General Chamber of Commerce, life honorary chairman of the Federation of Hong Kong Chiu Chow Community Organisations, a member of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (Guangdong province and Shantou municipality), among other positions. He was awarded the Medal of Honour in 2013 and the SBS in 2018.

The freedom found within St. Paul’s is a catalyst for the varied achievements among its teachers and students, according to Chan. One of his proudest achievements was organising the inaugural Joint School Science Exhibition in 1968 with the support of the Acting Principal R.G. Wells; with ten schools’ projects in City Hall, the exhibition drew a total of 20,000 visitors. Chan remained committed to the College since his graduation, and is a former College council member. He now serves as Vice Chairman of St. Paul’s College Foundation Limited.
