Kenneth Ting Woo Shou completed his studies at St. Paul’s in 1963. Born into an industrialist family, Ting’s interest in arts and crafts was already apparent during his time at the College; he even fashioned a full-size canoe out of old magazines. He was a scout and was active in College events.

After furthering his studies in the USA, he returned to Hong Kong in 1968 to take over the family business, Kader. China’s opening up presented an opportunity, and Ting relocated Kader’s factories to reduce costs. In 1981, Kader acquired Bachmann, a well-known model train maker. The company turned public in 1985, and Ting became its chairman in 1993. Today, Kader is among the largest toy and model train manufacturers in the world.

Outside of his industrial work, Ting was a director of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, served two terms in the Legislative Council (Industrial (First) functional constituency, 1998–2004), and remains a committee member of the Liberal Party. He has been named honorary president of both the Federation of Hong Kong Industries and the Chinese Manufacturers’ Association of Hong Kong. Ting was appointed JP in 1986, awarded the SBS in 2004 and the Hong Kong Industrialist of the Year Award in 2010.
