Pioneering Paulines

So Hau Leung studied at St. Paul’s College between 1958 and 1966. So was the first director of the Hong Kong Philharmonic and a music industry titan. In the 1980s, as general manager of Capital Artists, So witnessed Hong Kong’s entertainment industry enter its golden era; he himself was a manager for Anita Mui, Sandy Lam, Anthony Lun, K.C. Lee, Tony Leung Chiu Wai, Carina Lau, Lui Fong, and other talents. He remains a key figure in Hong Kong’s evolving cultural industry.

So demonstrated an ear for music at a young age. He became a College pianist in Form 1 and assisted in organising the College concert while in sixth form, as part of the College’s Arts Association.

After graduating from university, So frequently collaborated with Lo King Man, the founder of the Hong Kong Arts Centre, in opera performances, before going on to lead the city’s philharmonic. So’s success at Capital can also be traced back to how he changed the way talent agencies were run in Hong Kong. Under So, the Hong Kong Coliseum became a benchmark of success in Hong Kong’s music industry. So had also helped the government by working as a consultant on the project for the West Kowloon Cultural District.

蘇孝良於一九五八年入讀聖保羅書院，在一九六六年於聖保羅書院預科畢業，於音樂界成就過人，曾任香港管弦樂團首任總經理，在一九八〇年代以華星娛樂總經理身份見證香港音樂進入黃金時期，曾爲梅艷芳、林憶蓮、倫永亮、李國祥、梁朝偉、劉喜玲、呂方等藝人之經理人，爲香港文娛發展之要臣。

蘇氏於幼年時已展現音樂天賦和興趣，早於中一已獲召爲學校琴師，高六以文學聯會委員的身份籌辦書院音樂會。

蘇氏在大學畢業後和藝術中心創辦人盧景文多次於歌劇合作，後獲提名領導香港管弦樂團。任華星總經理時，蘇氏革新經理人制度，又將紅磡體育館打造成樂壇演唱會成就指標。同時，蘇氏亦協助港府制定文化政策相關的工作，曾出任西九龍核心文化藝術設施諮詢委員會財務小組成員。
