Born in Macau, Patrick Lau attended St. Paul’s College in 1958 and graduated from sixth form in 1963. Lau is an architect, a professor of architecture, and has sat on the Legislative Council from 2004 to 2012 (Architectural, Surveying, and Planning functional constituency). He began teaching architecture at the University of Hong Kong in 1973 and headed the department from 1996 to 2000. He was conferred an honorary fellowship in 2006. He is most known for his school campus designs.

After completing his undergraduate studies in Canada, Lau returned to Hong Kong, where he worked on a diverse range of projects, including heritage conservation, urban rebuilding, urban planning, schools, and community projects. In particular, his work on the Lycée Français International de Hong Kong, Hong Kong International School (Tai Tam), Sam Tung Uk Museum, West Island School, and the Australian International School Hong Kong have garnered awards. Lau was additionally awarded the SBS in 2000 and appointed JP in 2004.

Lau has also been active in College affairs and is a current council member. He played a part in designing the College’s South Wing (opened in 2006) and the Primary School’s Pokfulam Road campus (opened in 2013).
