1968屆畢業 — 骨科運動醫學賢才

Freddie Fu graduated from St. Paul’s College in 1968 and later furthered his studies in the USA. An orthopaedics and sports medicine specialist, Fu founded and chaired the University of Pittsburgh’s sports medicine programme since 1986, and was the university’s athletics department’s head team physician for thirty-two years. His team has served tens of thousands of patients, from amateur athletes to ballet dancers to Olympians alike; one high-profile patient of Fu’s was Swedish striker Zlatan Ibrahimović, after his 2017 right knee injury. His older brother, Frank, also studied at St. Paul’s.

Fu’s own research focuses on the knee, specifically anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. Throughout his lifetime, he wrote/co-wrote over 650 peer-reviewed articles, and led the University of Pittsburgh to become the world’s most prolific and widely-cited institution in ACL research.

Over three decades in Pittsburgh, Fu was known for his devotion and initiative, having trained thousands of students from all over the globe. His department is one of the most diverse in the US, both in terms of ethnicity and gender.

Fu’s love of sport began at a young age. While at St. Paul’s, he led the A grade basketball team to victory in the 1969–70 inter-school championship. Many years later, Fu remains proud of his College years, treasuring good teachers and good memories.
