Class of 1963 - Scholarly Politician

1963屆畢業 — 政治敎育明才

Jasper Tsang entered St. Paul’s College in 1956 and graduated in 1963. A politician and educator, Tsang is a former directly-elected Legislative Council member (1998–2008), former Legislative Council president (2008–16), founding chairman of the Democratic Alliance for the Betterment of Hong Kong (DAB) (1992–2003). He served on the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference from 1993 to 2012. He is a former principal of Pui Kiu Middle School (1985–97), now serving as the school’s supervisor. He was awarded the GBM in 2015. He is an elder brother to Tsang Tak Sing, who is also an old Pauline.

Outside of politics, Tsang has hosted broadcast programmes such as The Recruitment, was an am730 columnist, and has penned several books and memoirs.

Studying at St. Paul’s is a time Tsang looks back on with pride. He had a hand in forming the Students’ Association and formed his own literary society with his classmates, making a foray into editing and self-publishing. Taking over from Col Evan Stewart, then Principal the Revd Geoffrey Speak had very large shoes to fill, but proved a worthy successor through his charm, humour, and leadership, carrying the torch for Stewart’s legacy while making key reforms. To this day, he retains cordial ties with the College, participating in reunions and celebratory events.
