Class of 1957 - the First Chinese Bishop in the Diocese of Hong Kong and Macau

1957屆畢業 — 聖公會港澳敎區首位華人主敎

Peter Kwong enrolled at St. Paul’s College in 1950 and completed his studies there in 1958. He joined the clergy in 1965, serving as a priest at the Sheng Kung Hui Crown of Thorns Church in Tsuen Wan. A year later, he was assigned to St. Paul’s and St. James’ Church. In 1981, he became the first Chinese to lead the Diocese of Hong Kong and Macau.

Kwong worked to make sure that institutions operated smoothly as Hong Kong returned to the motherland. This led to the creation of the Anglican Province of Hong Kong in 1998. Kwong was elected its first Archbishop and Primate, continuing to lead the province until retiring in 2007.

While at St. Paul’s, Kwong took a keen interest in the College’s religious activities. The teachers trusted young Kwong so much that they had him coordinate the College’s Christian Union activities, influencing his future path and ministry.
